Seminar on the Availability of Veterinary Antimicrobials and Alternatives to Their Use

The National Action Plan against Antibiotic Resistance (PRAN) will hold a seminar on the Availability of Veterinary Antimicrobials and Alternatives to Their Use on 15 October 2026.

This event aims to bring together representatives from competent authorities, veterinary organisations, international bodies, and other key stakeholders to discuss current challenges related to the availability of veterinary antimicrobials and alternatives to their use. Throughout the seminar, participants will share experiences and explore potential measures to improve access to these products and address existing therapeutic gaps across different animal species.

The availability of veterinary medicinal products is essential to ensuring animal health and welfare, while also supporting the prudent and responsible use of antimicrobials. In this context, fostering collaboration among public authorities, veterinary professionals, industry representatives, and other stakeholders is crucial to identifying barriers and facilitating access to safe, effective, and high-quality treatments.

During the seminar, initiatives aimed at improving the availability of veterinary antimicrobials and alternatives to their use will be presented, together with documents and practical experiences developed to address therapeutic gaps. In addition, a roundtable discussion involving representatives from various organisations and national authorities will provide an opportunity to discuss possible future actions and exchange views on the main challenges and opportunities in this field.
